You don’t have to “like” Social media, you don’t even have to use it but please, please, please produce content good enough, smart enough, value packed enough that people like it. That they like it so much to hit the Facebook “Like” button about it. Why? Google is incorporating social signals into their algorithm at an ever increasing rate. It matters to your SEO if your content is being shared across different sites on the Internet (not to mention Google’s new “Plus 1” in it’s experimental phase right now).
There are two different ways you can use Facebook’s like buttons:
1. Most of you probably use the “Facebook Like Button” plugin that allows people to share your posts. That is a great plugin to use if your site has lots of informative posts and is getting a decent amount of traffic already.
But what if you have a lot of pages on your website and each page gets “Liked” once? Your social proof is being split up among your many pages and might be even considered “negative.”
2. In that case install a regular “old’ Facebook Like button that links to your main URL. Have it show at the top of your sidebar on all the pages of your site. Now, if you have 10 likes, they will all be concentrated into one button and each person that visits any page on your site will be shown that 10 people liked it already.
Important “Secret” Tip: If you are wondering how people interact with content on your website go to Facebook Insights, click the green “Facebook Insights For Your Website” and follow the instructions. Install it on your site, wait for a couple of days and check your new stats, hope you are going to like the results!
First, if you like this post I would appreciate you sharing it across social media sites and second, please tell me which “Like” strategy do you use?
